Judge rules Texas school finance system unconstitutional; case likely headed to state Supreme Court.
In a ruling that could signal a huge fiscal impact on Texas, a state judge ruled Monday that the Texas school finance system is not delivering enough funding for schools to do their job and is sending out that money in an unfair and unconstitutional manner. Read the full article here.

The Texas Medical Association is giving away $22,500 in CASH prizes! Three Texas science teachers will receive $5,000 each and an all-expense paid trip to TMA’s annual conference for the presentation ceremony in May 2013! Their schools will receive a $2,000 award to use toward the science curriculum! In addition, second-place winners receive $500 for their schools!

National Math and Science Initiative Receives $200,000 from JPMorgan Chase for UTeach Program to Train Math and Science Teachers
DALLAS, Apr 05, 2012 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- The National Math and Science Initiative (NMSI) announced today that JPMorgan Chase will provide $200,000 to support the highly regarded UTeach program to train math and science teachers on four university campuses across the United States: the University of California at Berkeley, Florida State University, Louisiana State University and the University of Texas at Dallas.
“This welcome support from JPMorgan Chase will help create a new generation of math and science teachers in the United States,” said Dr. Mary Ann Rankin, President and CEO of NMSI. “Our nation needs an additional 280,000 math and science teachers by 2015, and the UTeach program is playing a key role in providing those teachers.”
The grant from JPMorgan Chase will be used for induction training to help UTeach graduates majoring in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) fields to make the transition from college to public school classrooms. Since 2005, JPMorgan Chase has given nearly $340 million to education nationwide.
“At JPMorgan Chase, we believe that strengthening education is critical to the progress of our country,” said Kimberly Davis, President of the JPMorgan Chase Foundation. “We are happy to partner with NMSI and UTeach, who are working to do just that.”
The JASON Project is seeking a diverse, creative, and adventurous group of students and educators to venture into the field with scientists to perform cutting edge science explorations. The Argonauts will embark on an exciting journey, during which they will:
- Work side by side with scientists in the field,
- Serve as a mentor and role model for the JASON Community
- Regularly interact with the entire JASON community through speaking engagements, online posts and more!
National Student and Educator Argonauts will spend up to 10 days in the field during the summer or fall of 2012. JASON will pay for all travel, lodging, food (meals and snacks), and programming/equipment costs related to JASON Argonaut activities.
NASA's Multiwavelength Universe Online Professional Development for Educators June 25-July 13, 2012
NASA has developed an on-line course for teachers on Multi-wavelength astronomy. There is a small fee if you want 1 credit hour or CEU credit. On a space-available basis, teachers may audit the course for free.You need access to a computer (Internet) plus a telephone for the live-sessions. (Some sessions are "on your own" with homework.) Some materials will be mailed to you in advance of the workshop.
Explore NASA resources in a combination of online synchronous and asynchronous formats to understand how astronomers use their knowledge of light to investigate the universe. Participants will have the opportunity to obtain academic credit through Sonoma State University (I credit for EDUC 490 or 1.5 Continuing Education Credits).
