Bring all the teachers and chaperones/parents you can. They don’t have enough staff to handle a large group on their own.
Cost: $1 per student. To include a ranger-guided tour, it is $2 per student.
• Lunch – bring your coolers with drinks and lunches and find a shady spot to eat. Make sure you know where to unload them before you get there – so ask before-hand.
• Call and ask for any brochures, booklets on the park and have them sent to you. Or better yet, visit McKinney Falls before you take your students. There are some helpful books that are worth purchasing so that you are more prepared– ask if they have an educator’s discount! (Actually, you should ask that everywhere!)
• Bring water bottles/canteens.
• Don’t miss the opportunity to explore the early settler ruins. There is some great U.S./Texas history here. Encourage the history teacher at your school to visit the site before-hand with you. You can easily integrate science and history at this site.
• If you are doing the recommended field trip, be sure to talk to McKinney Falls staff about having the loaner kit available on macroinvertebrates and water quality. Familiarize yourself with the contents.
