McKinney Roughs Nature Park Field Experience

A hands-on, real world experience with chemistry through the use of water testing equipment! Students will determine the quality of the Colorado River or a McKinney Roughs pond by conducting tests using scientific instruments and methodology that indicate six parameters: dissolved oxygen, pH, air and water temperature, nitrogen and total dissolved solids.

This classroom resource was created to teach water quality concepts.
Post-Visit Suggestions
Watershed Walk
Students either sample water from their own watersheds or teacher and students
take a short walk to a local water source to obtain a sample.
McKinney Roughs Stories
Students write and present a lesson on a pre-assigned TEKS objective based
on their trip to McKinney Roughs.
