Model River System

Time: Two 50-minute class periods

This activity will allow students to create a model river system and manipulate variables such as rate and volume of water. Through this exercise, students will develop the concepts of flood stage, levees, floodplain, and the dynamics of river flooding. Students will construct river models and test various flow rates and volumes. They will report any patterns they observe relative to river flooding.
