McKinney Roughs Nature Park Field Experience
River Trip

Time: 1 1/2 to 4 hours (flexible - talk with staff)
Students have a safe, personal experience with the Colorado River by paddling with a team as they learn about river history, the ecology of this riparian system and importance of preserving this natural resource for future generations. Students will be transported to the river and receive a short boaters safety course. The trip will have a huge impact on middle schoolers....especially those who have never been river rafting!

Pre-Visit Suggestion
Model River System
This activity will allow students to create a model river system and manipulate
variables such as rate and volume of water.
Post-Visit Suggestions
Dams Debate
Students will research the dams on their major local rivers.
McKinney Roughs Stories
Students write and present a lesson on a pre-assigned TEKS objective based
on their trip to McKinney Roughs.
