The media at the national and state level have been discussing evolution recently. The STAT Board of Directors updated the official Position Statement on Evolution in February 2006. Below is a PDF document of the official STAT Position Statement on Evolution. It was approved by the STAT Board of Directors on February 4, 2006.

Our current science standards, the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS), were adopted in 1998 and include the theory of evolution. The Science Teachers Association of Texas supports the position that evolution is a major unifying concept in science and should be included in K-12 science education standards, frameworks and curricula. Evolution should continue to be included in the new revision of the Science TEKS which begins in 2008.
